Roman Day

We have had a wonderful day today, learning lots of new skills and creating 

things that would have been used and eaten in Roman times. 

We were also lucky enough to look at some Roman artifacts that were found in Great Ellingham, by Mrs Harrison's younger brother, Matthew. We handled things that would have been held or worn by Roman, Anglo Saxon and Viking people, nearly 2000 years ago. Wow!

Chariots, shields and mosaics.

Oak class Romans have been finding out how much determination and resilience is needed when making chariots - especially decorating them with string scrolls and swirls. They have also learned how much patience and perseverance you need to create a mosaic. Don't forget to ask them about it!

Chariots, shields, pots and lamps.

We have had a go at making coil pots and oil lamps out of clay this afternoon. We have also made milk bottle chariots and shields. We practised using saws and craft knifes, safely.

Roman Day!

 We have baked some Roman recipes today: Wine cakes, Barley Cakes and Honey Cakes. Despite being called cakes, two of them were savoury, not sweet. Ask me about them!
